The one-year Plastic & Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship at the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at Toronto General Hospital (TGH) offers an opportunity to experience a broad spectrum of cancer-related defect reconstruction. Fellows will mainly be exposed to microsurgical and non-microsurgical reconstruction of Head & Neck, Breast and Musculoskeletal sarcoma defects. The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Division at TGH is a very busy service offering an excellent clinical, educational, and research experience.
During the Plastic & Reconstructive Microsurgery Fellowship there is very close interaction with staff. You will be involved in all aspects of patient care including active participation in outpatient clinics, preoperative patient assessment, operative procedures and postoperative care. Over the course of the year you will develop sufficient professional skills to competently and independently practice in the field of oncologic Plastic & Reconstructive Microsurgery.
A large number of clinical conferences, University Rounds, Surgical Service Rounds, journal clubs and one-on-one instruction are an integral part of the Microsurgery Fellowship Program. You will actively participate in Divisional and multidisciplinary conferences, seminars and rounds at the Toronto General Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and affiliated hospitals at the University of Toronto. There will be ample opportunity to meet with visiting faculty on a regular basis. You may fully participate in the University of Toronto formidable Plastic Surgery educational program, including seminar series, journal club, laboratory technical skills sessions, symposia and visiting professorships.
There is ample opportunity for both clinical and basic research. All research activities are supported by and in collaboration with divisional staff. You will be expected to pursue at least one project of personal interest, which fits in the Divisional line of research, and which would be suitable to submit for peer-reviewed publication. You are encouraged to present the report at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
