Dr. Wanzel is Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and is also the Program Director for the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He is responsible for the design and delivery of Division of Plastic Surgery’s postgraduate education program.

Dr. Wanzel is currently on active staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre. In clinical practice since 2005, Dr. Wanzel specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, body contouring, hand surgery and benign and malignant tumours of the skin and soft tissues.

Dr. Wanzel graduated from the University of Toronto medical school, where he won the prized silver medal, graduating with the second highest GPA amongst 196 graduating medical students. He then completed a seven-year residency in plastic surgery at the University of Toronto, which included two years in the Surgeon Scientist Program while completing a Master of Education degree. After certification as a plastic surgeon, he completed additional sub-specialty fellowship training in Aesthetic and Reconstructive Breast Surgery.

Dr. Wanzel has won several prestigious awards including the Sustained Excellence in Community Based Teaching Award for the entire University of Toronto, the Chair’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Division, the Arnis Freiberg Teaching Award for Best Teacher in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto, as voted on by the residents; and Best Teacher and Role Model in the Department of Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto (several times).
