Dr McArdle studied Medicine at University College Dublin, Ireland graduating in 2009. He completed his plastic surgery residency in Ireland, and was awarded Fellowships by examination from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and European Board of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery.

He completed a two year Postdoctoral Research fellowship at Stanford University. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed publications, and authored 8 book chapters. He was awarded a Doctoral degree in Research from University College Dublin.

Dr McArdle completed two clinical fellowships at the University of Toronto - Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and the Paediatric Plastic Surgery Fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children.
