Ryan Austin

Dr. Ryan Austin is a plastic surgeon at True Plastic Surgery and a member of the Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery at the University of Toronto, with clinical appointments at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto. His practice encompasses aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery, with particular interests in aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring after weight loss, abdominoplasty, and hand surgery.

A Toronto native, Dr. Austin completed his undergraduate studies at Queen's University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Life Sciences on a full academic scholarship. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto before completing his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Hand Surgery at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Austin is actively involved in research, education, and leadership within the field of plastic surgery. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented his work at national and international scientific meetings. His academic interests include aesthetic surgery, surgical education, healthcare innovation, and quality improvement.

He serves as Associate Editor for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum and is actively involved with both the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and The Aesthetic Society through committee service and educational initiatives. He is also Co-Chair of the Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium and has held leadership roles within the Ontario Medical Association, where he previously served as Chair of the Section on Plastic Surgery.

Recognized for his commitment to teaching, Dr. Austin was awarded the Arnis Freiberg Faculty Teaching Excellence Award by the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is dedicated to advancing the field of plastic surgery through excellence in patient care, education, research, and innovation.
