Dr. Ryan Austin joined The Plastic Surgery Clinic in 2017 and has been a part of the Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Joseph’s Health Centre since 2020. With a wealth of expertise, Dr. Austin is renowned for his exceptional outcomes in a range of specialties, including breast surgery, abdominoplasty / body contouring after weight loss, labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation, and hand surgery.

A native of Toronto, Dr. Austin earned a BSc with a specialization in Life Sciences from Queen’s University on a full scholarship, maintaining a place on the Dean’s Honour List with Distinction. He was also an active member of the varsity golf team and volunteered with the Queen’s Medical Outreach program, delivering health education to at-risk students in Kenya.

Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Austin obtained his MD from the University of Toronto, garnering several prestigious awards for academic excellence and extracurricular involvement. He completed his residency training at the esteemed Division of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by a clinical fellowship in Hand Surgery at The Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center / Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Dr. Austin is a respected figure in the field of plastic and aesthetic surgery research, with numerous publications in esteemed journals and frequent presentations at national and international conferences. He serves as Co-Chair of the Toronto Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Symposium and holds leadership roles in numerous medical associations.

In 2015, Dr. Austin was selected to join the Editorial Board of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal as one of five Next Generation Editors, and in 2020 he was selected to Lead the Next Generation Editors section, an eminent role that he continues to hold today. Dr. Austin works as a Contributing Editor for the Aesthetic Breast Surgery Section of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal Open Forum and serves on numerous committees with The Aesthetic Society and the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Since 2020, Dr. Austin has also served as Chair of the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) Section on Plastic Surgery, representing and advocating for plastic surgeons across the province of Ontario.

Recognized for his dedication to patient care and education, Dr. Austin has received numerous awards throughout his career, including the prestigious Arnis Freiberg Faculty Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Toronto Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and maintains active memberships in leading medical and scientific organizations.
