Dr. Ammara Ghumman completed her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario following an undergraduate degree in pharmacy. She went on to complete her residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Ottawa. Dr. Ghumman subsequently pursued fellowship training in hand, wrist, and peripheral nerve surgery at the University of Miami, and in oncologic and microvascular reconstruction—with a focus on breast reconstruction—at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
In addition to her surgical training, Dr. Ghumman earned a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto. She is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Canada and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Ghumman is also certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and holds subspecialty certification in Surgery of the Hand.
Before joining Women’s College Hospital in 2023, she practiced at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, where she served as Breast Reconstruction Lead and held multiple educational leadership roles.
Dr. Ghumman’s clinical practice at Women’s College Hospital focuses on breast reconstruction and breast surgery. In addition, she maintains a private aesthetic practice with expertise in aesthetic breast surgery, facial surgery, and body contouring. Her research interests include breast reconstruction outcomes, post-operative breast pain, and mechanisms of breast reinnervation. Through her academic and clinical work, she aims to improve patient-centered outcomes and quality of life for individuals undergoing breast reconstruction.
