Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day – Wednesday, October 20, 2021

Dear all,
Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2021. Due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions in many locations, the event this year will again be delivered through a virtual platform. The benefit of this is that we can create a single national event that can be accessed by anyone across the country.

The program is scheduled from 7-10pm Eastern time. It includes over 50 health care professionals including 32 CSPS members and many of our own faculty and alumni. Breakout sessions are planned on a regional basis, allowing women to access surgeons within their own area. There will be representatives participating from the Canadian Cancer Society, who will be able to provide information about breast cancer support and resources for reconstruction in all areas across the country.

Many of you are probably aware of the growing restrictions on access to resources for breast reconstruction and for that matter, many quality-of-life related procedures. This highlights the importance of ongoing advocacy and support for our patients. Attached to this email is a copy of the BRA Day program as well as a BRA Day poster that has an embedded link, QR code and website address for on-line registration. Registration is free thanks to the generous support of organizations including the CSPS.

Please consider distributing this information to your patients, local health care professionals, hospitals, breast clinics and anyone in your area who you think might be interested in learning more about breast reconstruction. We would also like to welcome as many of you as possible to this event.

If you have any questions or require assistance please do not hesitate to reach out to our program coordinator, Patricia Rabel-Jeudy at patricia.rabel-jeudy@wchospital.ca.

Yours sincerely,

Mitchell Brown, MD, MED, FRCSC
