Biography

Dr. Tim Sproule has been practicing in Toronto and Scarborough since 1987. His practice includes significant activity in the subspecialties of Aesthetic Surgery, Laser Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Hand Surgery, Microsurgery and Pediatric Surgery.

Dr. Sproule graduated from medical school in 1980 from the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. During his medical school years, he trained at Guy’s Hospital in London, England and also at Parkland Hospital, in Dallas, Texas, USA, where he worked extensively with severe burn victims, an experience that motivated him to continue training in Plastic Surgery.

He followed this with a rotating internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in London, Ontario, and then returned to Edmonton to complete a residency in Plastic Surgery.

After receiving his fellowship in Plastic Surgery from the Royal College of Canada in 1985, he traveled to Scotland where he spent one and a half years training at the West of Scotland Plastic and Oral Surgery Unit based at Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow. At Canniesburn he learned advanced techniques in many subspecialty areas of Plastic Surgery.

In 1987, Dr. Sproule became an active staff member at The Scarborough Hospital, General Division. Dr. Sproule also holds courtesy staff privileges with Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Women’s College Hospital and The Rouge Valley Health System.

Dr. Sproule was appointed a lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto in March of 1995.

COSMETIC SURGERY:
Dr. Sproule has a significant cosmetic practice that is grounded in his extensive reconstructive surgery background and allows him great latitude in performing aesthetic enhancements in a safe and reliable manner. He has established his own free-standing, fully certified surgical facility at 605 McCowan Road in Scarborough. Here the aesthetic patient can be treated with the utmost safety and privacy in a facility that offers a high standard of care including general anaesthesia capability. He has a special interest in combining surgery with laser modalities to achieve uniquely high quality results in facial rejuvenation.

LASER SURGERY:
Dr. Sproule has used a variety of lasers for many years and has closely followed their exciting advancements. He has experience with CO2, YAG, Tunable Dye, Pulsed Dye, Q-Switched, and Erbium machines, and presently uses several of these for the treatment of a large variety of conditions, including removal of skin blemishes, tattoos, birthmarks, vascular disorders, and the latest aesthetic applications for skin rejuvenation and wrinkle removal. He has a particular interest in the treatment of post surgical and burn scars.

MICROVASCULAR RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY:
Dr. Sproule has a clinical appointment at the Scarborough Hospital, General Division, where the majority of his reconstructive cases are managed. This caseload includes microvascular reconstructions, including microvascular breast reconstruction, microvascular head and neck reconstruction, and microvascular hand surgery. He also performs vasectomy reversal in conjunction with his urologic colleagues.

MAXILLOFACIAL SURGERY:
Dr. Sproule heads up a multidisciplinary team that manages complex maxillofacial problems including cleft lip and palate deformities.

CHARITABLE WORK:
Dr. Sproule has always had an interest in utilizing the abilities and knowledge that he has been so privileged to acquire to help those who are less fortunate. To this end Dr. Sproule works with Resurge International (formerly Interplast), an international organization dedicated to helping repair severe defects and burn injuries in children in the developing world. He has also founded his own charitable organization, The Canadian Reconstructive Surgery Foundation to provide support for the teaching of reconstructive surgical techniques, education and support to the local health professionals in developing countries. With this organization, he was responsible for the design and construction of a burn center in Georgetown Guyana, and is involved in mentoring physicians there to support reconstructive and burn surgery. He travels extensively in developing countries on a regular basis.
