Dr. Oleh Antonyshyn is an Associate Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Toronto, with a subspecialty practice in craniomaxillofacial surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Toronto in 1980, and completed his surgical residency at the University of Western Ontario in 1985. Following his certification in Plastic Surgery, he pursued an additional 4 years of subspecialty fellowship training in craniofacial surgery including a traveling fellowship in Europe and Mexico City. Dr. Antonyshyn established the Adult Craniofacial Program at Sunnybrook Hospital in 1996 to address the specific needs of adult patients with post-traumatic, post-ablative, and developmental craniofacial deformities, and is currently the Head of the Program.

A former member of the Examination Board in Plastic Surgery for the Royal College, Dr. Antonyshyn remains active in the education of residents and practicing surgeons, and was awarded the A. Freiberg Plastic Surgery Resident Teaching Award in 2008. He established a Clinical Fellowship in Adult Craniofacial Surgery in 1993, providing post-residency specialized training in adult craniofacial surgery to candidates from Canada, the United States, Ireland, Israel and the Middle East. He has served on the Education Committees of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons and is actively involved in multiple CME programs. He has recently been appointed to the Global Advisory Board of the Advanced Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Forum.

Research Interests

Development and implementation of technologies to allow computer assisted imaging, modeling, and rapid prototyping in the planning, execution, and morphological outcome analysis of facial surgical procedures.

Our research focuses on computer imaging and simulation applications in craniofacial surgery. Specifically we are interested in:
1. Preoperative 3D imaging and virtual craniofacial surgery design
2. Rapid prototyping
3. Intraoperative 3D navigation
4. Postoperative morphological outcomes analysis

These technologies have been employed in developing patient-specific implants for the reconstruction of cranio-orbital defects, in developing biomodels for surgical education, and for image-based analysis of the morphological results of facial reconstructive procedures.
