What’s Going On – January 30, 3014

It’s always nice to congratulate and recognize our faculty for doing their jobs above and beyond what is expected.

Congratulations to Dr. Marc Jeschke (Ross Tilley Burn Centre) for a successful Continuing Appointment Review. This process has supplanted the traditional 3-year review that all staff members undergo as part of their academic appointment.

After his training and staff position in Galveston, Texas, Marc came to the University of Toronto as the Director of the Ross Tilley Burn Centre in May 2010 and has done a terrific job of developing an enviable academic profile. He was promoted to Full Professor in 2013 and was awarded the George Armstrong-Peters Prize on the basis of his strong research productivity in the area of burns research. During his past 4 years, he has secured research funding from PSI, CIHR and CFI. On his CV, Marc has almost 250 peer review publications, 25 book chapters, 16 editorials, a book and way too many scientific presentations to count.

Marc was integral in securing American Burn Association certification for the RTBC and was named Chair of Burn Research at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre in 2013. Marc is a superstar and we are fortunate to have him on faculty at the University of Toronto.

Furthermore, congratulations to Marc on a profile piece on Canada AM for his work on tissue engineering using a novel 3D skin printer to better serve burn patients. To get an idea of the innovative research that Marc is doing, check out the video at CanadaAM CTV News.
